This bowl and dish are descended from Sue ware of the Heian period (794-1185) and were produced in small quantities until around the end of the Kamakura period (1185-1333). Early examples have rounded hips and retain the form of Sue ware. The bottom of the bowls and plates are wheel-thrown, and the bottom of the bowls and plates have marks on the bottom.
Both bowls and plates have shallow flat bottoms and are made of coarse clay containing many fine grains of siliceous stone, resulting in poor firing and tileware quality.
