　There are only a few carved Karatsu tea bowls, and it is assumed that they were probably specially made, and all of them are characterized by their large, thick molding and bold carving with thick soma carvings. Furthermore, several bowls have been handed down with iron paints applied to the carved parts. This tea bowl is one of the representative works of such carved Karatsu. It is a large semi-tubular tea bowl with a stout waist, and the workmanship is truly powerful and bold. The mouth is distorted almost to a pentagonal shape, the body is clearly covered with iron painting, and the pedestal is carved into a so-called “double pedestal”, leaving a slightly tilted large pedestal with a thick feldspar glaze covering the entire inside and outside. The glazed surface has deepened over time, and in particular, the plum blossom bark around the base gives the piece a more dignified appearance.
