Tanakamaru Collection
This is one of the most elegant of the Karatsu tea bowls and is highly regarded as one of the most elegant. It has a simple semi-tubular form with a low base, and the inside of the base is carved shallowly, creating a whorl-shaped helmet width. The body is underglazed with iron pigments with iris-like patterns on two sides, and the entire surface except for the base is thickly covered with feldspar glaze, the iris design of the underglaze painting appears to blur on the gray glazed surface with rough penetrations, and the patterns drawn with simple brushwork fit the shape of the tea bowl very well. In particular, the waist of the tea bowl is seen as the horizon, and the stem and leaves are stretched out from there, which gives an unskillful effect. The clay taste of the base is also good, and the roundness from the side of the base to the waist brings a peaceful atmosphere to the form of the half-tube.
