On the inside of the inner box lid, Rokkoku-sai has inscribed: “By Dan’nyu, Asymmetrical Tea Bowl, Inscription: ‘Broken Window,’ Left (Seal).” Among Dan’nyu’s tea bowls, this is an elegantly executed piece, featuring a signature carved into the footring. The style appears to be modeled after Kuro-Oribe ware; it is thickly formed in a “geta-gata” (clog-shaped) style, with an oval rim and body. The rim curves inward, and the circular footring is somewhat large and solidly constructed, with the signature carved into its interior. Made from white clay, it features a two-tone glaze application of black and transparent glazes, though the white glaze has a yellowish tint. A “Raku” seal is stamped on the interior and the lower exterior, and three kiln marks remain on the footring. Additionally, there is a kiln crack on the interior.
