This well is not listed in the “Taisho Meiki Kan” (Taisho Era Masterpieces) and seems to have been lost to the world for a time. However, it is a fine bowl with the style of a famous large well, and considering that it is said to have been called “Takeno Well,” it is presumed to have been a tea bowl with a long history owned by Shoji.
The bowl has a rounded shape, with the wheel marks clearly visible in a thousand-layer pattern. The indentation on the side of the foot is sharp, and the tall bamboo-jointed foot gives it a dignified presence. At first glance, it appears to be a rather bold well-shaped bowl, but the rounded shape of the bowl and the warm, soft glaze give it a gentle and elegant charm, similar to the Hosokawa well-shaped bowls.
Nevertheless, the irregular patterns on the sides of the high stand harmonize with the rugged texture of the high stand, creating an excellent landscape. The glaze is applied evenly and thickly overall, with fine fish-scale patterns resembling small cracks, adding to its beauty.
