This jar has exactly the same design as the Karatsu jar with an ashi pattern, but the painted design on this jar is more spacious, powerful, and has a deeper, more rustic flavor. The painted pattern on this jar is more spacious, powerful, and wild. The ashi design is on one side and the arabesque design on the other side, both glazed inside and out, but the iron design is slightly blurred, probably due to the presence of a lot of clay ash in the glaze. This is one of the representative masterpieces of the painted karatsu jar, and it is regrettable that the mouth of the jar is quite damaged. A pottery fragment of a jar with exactly the same design was excavated from the Koraishin Kiln at Ichinose.
