Like the octagonal hibiru in overglaze enamels, this vessel seems to have been made as a hibiru, and the base is large. The lower half and the tatami surface of the base are clay, and the rest of the surface is covered with white glaze. The glaze inside the base has a shriveled appearance like a plum blossom skin, probably due to rough cutting.
