A surprisingly large number of small incense burners were produced in Karatsu. This incense burner is one of the best examples of this type. The body is stepped, the mouth is held in, and the three sides of the base are rounded off to form a tripod-shaped incense burner. One side of the body is painted with a picture of a bridge and the other side with a picture of a screen, and the mouth is decorated with dotted spots.
