Height 9.6 cm, mouth diameter 15.6 cm, base diameter 5.9 cm
Tanakamaru Collection
This is a rather large tea bowl, and judging from its simple appearance, it seems to be an early example of painted Karatsu tea bowls. The base is carved out to be small and the tatami mat is thin. The soft reddish clay skin is painted with a pale and dark grass-like pattern on three sides of the body in iron paint, and the entire surface is glazed except for the area around the base, but there are white glaze drips around the base and white glaze pools in the prospective area. Although this is a medieval piece, the rim of the mouth is heavily damaged and has been repaired.
