The name “Jiro-bo” is probably derived from the red tea bowl named “Tarou-bo,” but it directly comes from the mad poem written by Soudan on the bottom of the inner box: “Introducing tea, the tea ceremony is abundant, but in the world, there is the arrogant Jiro-bo.”
The shape is rounded with a slightly inward curve, the body is thick and slightly bulging, and the base is rounded but wider than the Ooguro. It is a typical form favored by Rikyu. The rim has a tea pool and five eyes. The foot rim is shaped like a helmet and has five eyes. The red clay is covered with a glaze that is slightly translucent, and the glazed surface shows the characteristic white mottling of Nagajiro, creating a natural landscape. Among Nagajiro’s red tea bowls, this is a particularly exquisite piece with deep charm.
