Height 15.9 cm, mouth diameter 7.5 cm, body diameter 13.4 cm, bottom diameter 7.4 cm
This rather small jar with a stout shoulder shape is similar to that of the underglaze blue wares of the mid-Ming dynasty, which were imported into Japan in large quantities from the late 15th to the 16th century. The arabesque design on the neck is also influenced by Chinese influence. The body is decorated on two sides with a large peony design in dark underglaze blue, with smaller branches in between. The chrysanthemum-like pattern on the hem of the body is a rare design not often seen. The bottom of the bowl has been carved. This is a rare example of early Imari Sometsuke ware.
