Although the neck is damaged, this is a strongly wrought, strong-looking Tokutari with a strong, taut base. This type of potter’s crockery is found in the early Yi Dynasty with a powdery or candy glaze. This is a large-swinging Tokutoshi that clearly conveys the shape of the Yi Dynasty style. The body is painted in dark fine cobalt with a pine and bamboo design on one side and a New Year’s Eve design on the back in clear vertical lines. Although the neck is damaged, it is considered to be one of the outstanding examples of early Imari Sometsuke ware. The inside of the base is shallowly chipped away, and small sand is adhering to the tatami mats. It is regrettable that the clay surface is a little rough.
