This is a short-necked jar with an outer neck. There is no doubt that this jar was produced at the Tōei kiln, judging from the base material and firing. It was probably brought from the central part of China together with many other vessels, including sansae small jars. The clay has a high iron content and was fired by smoked reduction firing, resulting in a dark green natural glaze over part of the shiny black surface of the vessel.
