Three tea bowls with plum tree design in overglaze enamels have been handed down from generation to generation, and this tea bowl is similar to the one shown in Figure 125. The body of the bowl depicts a plum grove with red and white plum trees in full bloom, which is one of Qianzan’s specialty patterns. The trunk and white flowers are painted with iron pigments and white mud under the glaze, and the glaze with fine penetrations is applied over the entire body of the bowl, leaving the base of the bowl completely covered, with the red flowers and spear-like shoots painted in overglaze, and the stamen in yellow on the white flowers. The base is made of clay, and the left side of the base is inscribed “Qianzan”. Unlike iron-work paintings, which are painted directly on a white undercoat, this overglaze overglaze painting is done in a weaker brushwork style, but still evokes a warm spring-like atmosphere.
