Daiwa Bunkakan
Kigome built a kiln at Kasuga-yama on the outskirts of Kanazawa in Bunka 3 or 4 and taught pottery making, writing or engraving inscriptions such as “Kinjo Seisaku” or “Kinpu Shinsei” on his works. This bowl is a masterpiece of Kume at the Kasuga-yama kiln, with the inscription “Jincheng refined” written by Kume himself in red on the base.
The interior has a circular window with a design of peach blossoms and branches, a gourd pattern on the interior and exterior, and leaves between the blossoms. Each pattern is painted in black and covered with yellow, purple, and green overglaze glaze, but what is unusual is that the ground is painted black, which gives the piece a unique atmosphere and is characteristic of Kume, who was very research-oriented in his pottery making. The black ground is a double coating of green paint over black. The base has a slight iron content, and although a white glaze is applied over it, it has not been completely fired to porcelain quality.
