The Yuki Museum’s bowl with a snow-patterned bamboo design clearly shows the influence of Kenzan’s original work, and on the lid of the box it is inscribed “Kenzan Bosetsu Take Te-bachi Michihachi”. Although it is modeled on Kenzan’s bamboo hand bowl, the skill of Dohachi is even more sophisticated, and the three thin bamboo pieces that make up the arched hand are a good example of the sculptural skill of the great Dohachi. The base is made from a fine clay that contains a small amount of iron, and the bamboo leaves are outlined in iron pigment and then sprinkled with white clay, giving a good impression of the look of bamboo covered in snow. From the waist to the bottom, the base is open, and there are three legs attached to the sides, with a conch-shaped mark stamped between the legs.
