Like the ume bowl mentioned above, this is also a so-called “Kage” handled bowl, but this one has a somewhat more gentle appearance. This is probably because the color of the clay around the base is light yellowish brown and did not come out in a strong red like the former one, so the contrast of colors in each section is not so strong. And since the colorless transparent overglaze is applied to almost the same line on the side of the base, the white band of the lower part and the gray band of the upper part are in good balance.
This Kage-no-te teacup always has one or two black lines around the inside and outside of the rim. Of course, this can be seen in this bowl as well, but the lines on the outer rim are not so prominent because they are drawn on the moused ground.
However, instead, the white line is clearly left on the rim because the rat band was printed a little lower than the rim, and it looks as if it were a white-rimmed Tenmoku. It is a very cool tea bowl, and is highly prized as a bowl suitable for the season of Furnace.
