This is a representative example of the Kinzurande incense container. As can be seen from the inscription on the lid of the box, “Kinzurande Houshu Kogai”, this is a beautifully crafted piece in the shape of a precious stone. This type of design is not found in Chinese Kinzurande, and it can be said that it was the creative genius of Kouzou. The flames on the two sides of the lid are decorated with gold paint to depict a phoenix in flight and a phoenix descending, and the left and right sides are filled with double-stemmed peony arabesque, and the body is also decorated with double-stemmed peony arabesque. The mark “Kahin Shiryū” is stamped on the foot ring, and the joint between the body and the lid is exposed, but only the mark is covered with transparent glaze. The mark “Zen Gorō Zō” is written on the underside of the lid, and the mark of the Yongle reign is stamped on it.
