This large, plump, hemmed Tokutari is rarely seen in Kyo-yaki pottery. It is decorated with an underglaze design of ashi and egret in underglaze rust and white mud using the same technique as that used by Kenzan, and glazed over the entire surface except for the bottom, which is pierced. The flat bottom is marked “Gobosatsu-ike”. This example was probably made around the Genroku period (1688-1704).
