This is a representative example of the angular style, but it particularly showcases Kōetsu’s signature techniques, which are skillfully employed throughout, clearly demonstrating his distinctive characteristics in form. The rim features a cut-away at the base, creating a mountain-like profile, while the vertical grooves on the body are a striking highlight. The carving on the side of the high foot is also sharp. This tea bowl is made of white clay with yellow clay brushed on, and the brushing is casual, with some of the raw clay showing through, creating an accidental pattern. The bead glaze covers the entire surface, and the characteristic white mottling floats in places, adding to its charm.
