When speaking of Kosei shoulder-strike tea caddies, this Higanbana (Japanese aster) piece could be considered the quintessential example. It is the most commonly produced form from the ancient Seto kilns.
Ancient Seto tea caddies, though small in size, possess an overall robust appearance. Their characteristic features include the mottled Seto glaze and the deep, subdued coloration within. Later tea caddy makers all favored imitating this style.
Two replacement covers are included, harmoniously combining old Kinran and Kandou patterns.
