On the inside of the lid of the inner box, Ittō Matagen-sai has inscribed: “Ōhi-yaki Red Tea Bowl, with Sen-sō’s Seal (Kao).” This shape was likely to Sen-sō’s liking. Several tea bowls of this form by the First-Generation Ōhi have survived. It is a tea bowl with a graceful form, featuring a flared waist and a gently tapered body. The footring also has distinctive features: the base is quite narrow, the sides are rounded, and the hollowed-out section inside the footring is somewhat deep. No rim is formed inside; instead, a circular line engraving is applied, clearly defining the tea pool at the bottom. The glaze covering the entire bowl has a slightly amber hue, with some areas darkened by firing. On the right side of the foot, Senso has written “Soshitsu” (his seal) in red lacquer.
