Tannyü: shallow tea bowl, known as “Asase”, White Raku

Height: 6.1 cm, Mouth Diameter: 12.8 cm, Foot Diameter: 5.2 cm
Although this flat tea bowl is generally thin in construction, it has a high, well-defined waist and a deep interior. The foot ring is slightly thick, and a neat, hood-shaped indentation characteristic of Dan-nyu’s style has been carved into the interior of the foot. The foot and the area around it reveal a rough white clay surface, while the rest is covered with white glaze and fired in the Shiro-Raku style. A seal of receipt is stamped on the side of the foot. On the underside of the inner box lid, Rokkoku-sai has inscribed: “Made by Tannyu, Shiro-Raku Flat Tea Bowl, Inscription: Asase Fushin (Seal).”
