Yuki Art Museum
This is a copy of a Chinese blue-and-white tea bowl commonly known as the “Undo style.” The Yuki Art Museum’s collection includes outstanding examples of Undo-style copies, alongside those of the Shōzui and Kosen-tsuke styles. The semi-cylindrical body is adorned with three bands of iron glaze, and the exterior features a vividly colored design depicting clouds and pavilions. The piece is firmly fired throughout, though the foot and the area around it reveal a brownish clay body. The mark “Yongle” is stamped beside the foot, and the lid of the accompanying box bears the inscription “Replica of an Old Somenuki Undo Tea Bowl” on the front, while the underside of the lid is inscribed with “Mark: Made by Zenichiro.”
