Height: 7.5 cm, Rim diameter: 12.1 cm, Foot diameter: 5.5 cm
As indicated by Tannyu’s own signature, “Oribe-style tea ware, Kichizaemon,” on the lid of the box, this piece is modeled after an Oribe-style tea bowl. The rim is slightly distorted and shaped into a rounded square, with ridges running along the rim and body to convey strength, and the lower part of the body is also accented with ridges. The low, thick footring is also crafted in the Oribe style, with a portion of it cut flat. The footring and its surroundings are left exposed; a green glaze is applied to the inner and outer rims, while the rest is covered with a transparent glaze. Beneath the transparent glaze, floral arabesques and a fence pattern are painted in rust glaze, creating a reproduction of Oribe ware unique to Taniri.
The footring bears a seal of receipt, the underside of the lid is inscribed with “Shikai-nami, Left (signature)” by Kyukosai, and the “Seinei” seal is stamped at the top of the inscription. Therefore, this piece was likely fired at the Seineiken kiln between 1834 and 1844.
