This imposing large jar is a symbol of old Tokoname. The inward-tilted neck, the broad folded rim, and the rounded shoulders suggest that it was made in the latter half of the 13th century. The brownish-brown clay is covered with a dark green natural glaze that flows down to the lower half of the body, giving the vessel a powerful impression. It has a single seal over the shoulder.
