 This sutra case outer vessel was excavated from one of the sutra mounds in the vast Kyogamine Sutra Mound complex at Asagumayama, and is known to have been made by the Atsumi kiln, judging from its base firing. The purpose and year of construction are inscribed on the outer surface in calligraphy. The inscription reads, “Dedicated to the establishment of a Buddhist sutra niche.
