Non-artisan potter and businessman. Born in 1878 (Meiji 11). His real name is Kawakita Kyutayu Masajo. Other names include Hanryuko, Mudobutsudo, Mucha Houshi, Konno Uraji, Kiii, and Mokayaro Shujin. He was the 16th generation of the Kawakita family of Mie Prefecture, and was involved in the Ise cotton wholesale business in Odenmacho, Tokyo, which had been his family business for 350 years, as well as in electricity, banking, insurance, and other business enterprises. In his later years, he moved his kiln to the mountains of Hironaga in the same city and trained apprentices. He wrote several books on ceramics, including “Mudobutsudo Nichiroku” and “Kenzan Kou,” and his works include “Hanroko Rokuju Rokuon Shu,” “Hanroko Hachijuga Hyakunenkan” and “Hanroko Ou Kaikokuten Zuroku. He studied tea under Omote Senke HANKOKAN KUDA Soya, who died on October 26, 1963, at the age of 86.
