Kyozuka (sutra mound)

Sutra manuscripts were placed in a sutra case and buried underground, then covered with earth. The outer container of the sutra case was often a jar from Seto, Tokoname, or Atsumi, or celadon or blue-and-white porcelain from the Song and Yuan dynasties of China.
