Also written as horoku and roroku. It is a type of unglazed earthenware pot used for cooking things in a gunpole. According to the “Wakan sansai zue,” a sand pot is a pot of tile, which is used every time to roast medicines, tea, or rice, and it should be stirred slowly with a fire. It is said to have originated in Banshu, and many dances were performed in Osaka in the Settsu region in the modern era. The ones from Haniuda in Kawachi Province (Haniwno, Habikino City, Osaka Prefecture) and Yanagawa in Chikuzen Province (Yanagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture) are called haniuda gunranku, and are prized as tea utensils. It is also called an earthenware pot, and is used in the chanoyu ceremony to fill the charcoal pot with ashes from the furnace or windmill, and is carried out with an ash ladle and other accessories.
