Although the top spout is regrettably missing, this is the only known piece of Suzu ware jovin (purification vase). There are many examples of jovens in Heian-period japanned porcelain, but none have been seen in medieval ceramics.
It is wheel-thrown and has a flat bottom. It has a single band on the shoulder. The spout attached to the shoulder has lost its original shape and shows a degenerate form like the spout of an earthenware bottle.
The body is decorated with a five-tiered wavy pattern in a comb-like pattern. It is thought to have been made around the end of the 13th century. It is a type of Buddhist ware and one of the representative pieces of Suzu ware.
