Hakusan Shrine
This vase, together with the ash-glazed vase (Fig. 5) shown in the previous illustration, was excavated in 1933 during the construction of Echigo-Minami. The oral part is missing and has been repaired. The inscription on the shoulder reads, “Hakusan Gongen Douri Goshuware (sake vessel), dated December, Showa 1, 1912, and housed in Aichi-gun, Bishu, Japan. Although the recipient of the inscription is different from that of the other piece, there is no doubt that they were made at the same time and that this piece was specially fired to order. The slightly lessened tension of the shoulder is an indication of its newness.
