Shigaraki ware: small beaked jar.

16th century
Height 11.0 cm, mouth diameter 6.0 cm, body diameter 14.0 cm, bottom diameter 11.3 cm.
The top of the short neck of the mouth has a slanted flat rim, but there are faint traces of a double mouth. Part of the mouth rim is bent down to form a one-sided mouth. This small jar is reminiscent of Echizen o-haguro jars. It has a broad base with a tapered shoulder and a geta mark protruding from the underside. It is made of Shigaraki clay rich in feldspar and quartzite, and the joints are shaped from the outside by nudging them with my hands. The shoulders are shaved with a rather rough touch.
The body is covered with a thick layer of dark green natural glaze, and the surface is rough, but the rustic simplicity of this small jar gives it an indescribable flavor.
