This large lapparo vase is thought to have been modeled after a bronze vase.
It is an exquisite work of wheel-thrown pottery made with water-grinding using high quality clay mixed with rice paddy soil. The body is inscribed with a seven-line inscription in painted ink: “Dedication: Yokoozan Hondo Tamesetsu Sansan Seijo Mon Ya Shu Koto Sho Ibe Kimura Yojiro Eiroku 12 Uzuki Hatsuatsuichi Keihaku” (Twelfth year of the Era of the Era of Eternal Peace: 201 days of the first month). It is known to have been dedicated as a Buddhist vessel. The ware is of excellent workmanship, with a brownish-brown color and a yellowish-green natural glaze on the shoulder.
