This is an excellent Shino mukozuke with five pieces in almost perfect condition. As usual, this is a four-sided cylindrical mukozuke, with the four corners set into the corners. Each of the four sides of the body is decorated with patterns of violet, flowers and grasses (generally called “violet”), grass with open leaves, and arrowheads, and the glaze is thick and thickly burnished. The bottom of the bowl has a rounded cutout in the center, in the style of a go-zoko (a small cup with a hole in the bottom), as is customary. Most of these well-made vessels were used as hibiru (fire bowls).
