Red Shino bowl with pink-flower design

Red Shino bowl with pink-flower design

Height 4.9 cm, mouth diameter 16.9 cm, bottom diameter 11.1 cm
This is a thin, neatly wheel-thrown circular bowl, the sides of which rise up in straight lines while widening, and the bottom of which is shallowly and circularly split in the shape of a go-zukuri (a Japanese game bowl).
The entire surface is decorated with a decorative oniita, and two rings of “natsuko” (a kind of Japanese name for “pet”) are clearly visible on the prospective surface. It is a simple but impressive masterpiece, and judging from the fact that Toyozo Arakawa collected similar fragments from a kiln site in Takane, it was probably fired at the same kiln.
