Sazanami” is a typical example of this type of high-backed Nezushino tea bowl, with a soft glazed surface and a deep reddish color, which is the most tasteful glazed Nezushino tea bowl. The hinokigaki pattern on the body is similar to the carved Mishima pattern on Goryeo tea bowls, and is an interesting example that shows the relationship between the tea bowls ordered from the Korean peninsula (Gohon tea bowls) and the Mino tea bowls in Japan. Although it is not clear when this type of tea bowl was produced, it is estimated that it was probably produced between the Bunroku and the beginning of the Keicho period, based on the style of the work. The mouth is gently undulating, and the base is relatively straight and round.
