Tea bowl with grass design, E-garatsu type

Tea bowl with grass design, E-garatsu type

Height 8.2cm, mouth diameter 13.8cm, base diameter 6.0cm
This tea bowl is probably the twin of the “Iris Design Tea Bowl” among the painted karatsu tea bowls. Both are completely different in taste, but both are painted karatsu bowls with the artistry of a potter of Korean descent.
It is a spacious bowl-shaped tea bowl, and the large base is cut out in a straightforward manner, leaving almost no trace of cutting inside the slightly deeply cut out base. The body is painted with grass, tree, and vine patterns with gentle, poor brush strokes, and is covered with a feldspar glaze mixed with earth and ash inside and out, with some of the glaze running down to the edge of the base, showing a blue, plum blossom bark-like glaze. The clay around the base is reddish brown, showing a rich harmony with the nezumi-iro glaze. Although it is a painted karatsu bowl, the simple appearance similar to the Oku-Koryo tea bowl is impressive. Or, it may be made by the Tani Kiln of the jar shop.
