In 1938, a large number of earthenware vessels were excavated at the Nunome Site in Tenri City, and the name “Nunome type” was established as a reference material to indicate a representative type of ancient earthenware in Isouchi. The small round-bottomed earthenware was taken up as an indicator to distinguish it from Yayoi earthenware, and the loss of design and standardization of vessel shape were considered to be the background of political unification. The “Shonai-shiki” earthenware, which preceded the Nunome-shiki as the oldest earthenware in the Kinai region, has been confirmed at the Funabashi site in Osaka Prefecture.
