Tanakamaru Collection
This is a large, bulging-bodied, large-mouthed water vessel with large ears on both sides. The bottom, carved in the style of a round seat, is flat, and there are traces of shell marks on the four sides. The design is typical of Mishima karatsu, with floral, reki, hinokaki, and incense designs carved in sequence in double lines starting from the mouth, filled in with white clay, and then glazed. Although the kiln is not known, it is said to have been made in the Ohkusano area.
