Omotesenke
This is a typical example of a Shigaraki arrowhead container, but it is slightly shorter and has deep spatula carving on the upper part of the body. The body is decorated with thin vertical lines at equal intervals, which are thought to be in the shape of a tub. The clay skin is brown and hardened, and the mouth and front are covered with an ash glaze of the color of decayed leaves. The center of the bottom has been cut off in a shallow rounded shape, and the surrounding area has been made to look like an elevated platform. On the back of the lid of the box, there is a calligraphy of “Shigaraki Yatogokuchi-Mizusashi, Shinsaiza (Hanashoshi)” by Ryozai Soza, the ninth generation of Omotesenke. On the inside of the box, what appears to be a kiln mark “-” is carved in spatula.
