Height 25.5 cm, mouth diameter 3.2 cm, body diameter 13.7 cm, bottom diameter 9.9 cm
This is an early Imari Sometsuke ware of a slightly later period, and is estimated to have been made between the end of the Kan’ei period and the Meireki and Kanbun periods. The body is covered with a horizontal floating pattern, and the neck is narrowed in a unique shape, which is rare for a sake cup. A large tree is depicted on one side of the body, under which three Chinese children are playing and a bird is flying in the sky. A peony arabesque design is painted on the shoulder with spontaneous brushwork, and the neck is decorated with ground patterns, such as blue sea waves, in a pattern of “shawari” (a Japanese word for “blue sea wave”).
