Like the peach orchid, this work majestically depicts a tree bearing fruit, which is also an auspicious motif, filling the entire picture plane. The tree trunk stands thick and strong, with almost no unevenness in the underglaze blue and underglaze yellow, and the leaves are variegated with green and yellowish green. The coloring of the overglaze enamels is excellent, but since no strong colors are used throughout, only the large tree in underglaze blue appears to stand out, making the work somewhat less impressive as a color painting. The underglaze blue design on the reverse side of the plate is exactly the same as that on the plate with the peach orchid design. It is clear that the design of tachibana fruit was taken from the “Eshohon-geikocho” published at the time, but the skilled artisans of the Okawachi domain kilns have put it together in a most splendid manner.
