There are two types of short-necked jars: roughly crafted and unmarked, and refined vessels like this one. This thin, elaborate vase has a flat body and a short, upright neck. The body has a chinkaku line in the center and a continuous comb-shaped pattern on the shoulder. Flattened vases like this were common around the beginning of the 6th century, and were probably made with particular care for funerary purposes. The lid is missing.
