The design of Masugata patterns arranged in a cobblestone pattern on the entire surface of the circular prospective surface is generally known as unique to the Ko-Kutani style. A similar piece was also handed down in the Maeda family, both of which were probably made in Arita. The color scheme of purple, dark blue, green, yellow, and red is vivid, with phoenixes facing each other within the Masugata pattern on the four sides of the dish. The back of the dish has a peony arabesque design with flowers in eight directions in underglaze blue, and a Kakufuku inscription in underglaze blue on a double circle within the base, overlaid with green glaze. The label on the base reads “purchased in 13th year, old Kutani, price 20 yen.
