Important Cultural Property
Insei was also involved in architectural decoration. This fan-shaped piece and the nugikakushi, which represents a chrysanthemum branch design, are representative of his work, and although unmarked, are considered to be among his best works. The design of this nugikakushi is also characterized by the use of all of Insei’s color painting techniques, and a variety of patterns were selected that were regularly used by Insei. This nugikakushi came from the Marugame Kyogoku family, which owned many of Ninsei’s outstanding works. The back is unglazed and the front is white glazed with various overglaze designs.
