This is a rather thick, wheel-thrown tea bowl, not Raku ware, but a genuine black tea bowl. The black ground is painted in iron and yellow glaze with lotus, running water and jade. The “Qian Shan” inscription on the base of the bowl is presumed to be by Qian Shan, and the “Qian Shan” inscription is written in iron pigments and covered with a yellow glaze. The base clay is the same iron-rich clay used for earthenware dishes.
