 This round, flat incense container is also decorated with a painted design using white glaze, a technique unique to Qianzan. The back of the lid is painted with an eggplant design in white mud and rust over a transparent glaze, while the sides are decorated with a hinokagaki-style design in iron on a white ground with underglaze gouges and overglaze gold overglaze painting. The bottom of the box is inscribed “Kenzan” with a seal (hana-seki). The reverse side of the lid of the inner box is inscribed with the inscription, “Came from Nakai Chusuishimasa, dated March 2nd, Hoei 2 (Year of Hoei 2).
