This color is named after the inscription by Sōtan, who saw the diverse transformations of the glaze as the colors of Buddhism and named it after the phrase “color is emptiness, emptiness is color.”
It has a slightly raised rim, a stepped waist, and an ordinary shape, but the body shows significant signs of use.It is unmarked, and the base is shaped like a cross.
The most striking feature of this tea bowl is undoubtedly the various color changes visible on the glaze surface, which range from red to vermilion to yellow, with subtle variations in tone, and the large areas of blue fire marks that appear here and there. The subtle changes in color are indescribable, creating a wonderful, one-of-a-kind design.
