The name “Zansetsu” was given by Ryo Ryo in reference to the snake-like glaze on the front.
The base is thin, the mouth is slightly curved, giving it a mountain path-like appearance, and the body is well-proportioned, creating a light and agile piece that is typical of Nonkou.
The glaze is a beautiful glossy jet black, with a magnificent curtain glaze that extends to the foot.
The front showcases the distinctive snake-and-scorpion glaze, creating an unparalleled scenic beauty.
The black glaze extends to the base, revealing a hint of the clay, and inside the base is Ryōryōsai’s red lacquered signature, known as the “tengu seal.”
Additionally, the inscription on the underside of the lid, “Kōsetsuken,” is Ryōryōsai’s alternative name.
